Who Shouldn’t Get an Auto Warranty?

by Gregory Nelson

Although most warranty companies want you to believe that everyone who owns a car should extend the warranty, it’s not always true.

Here’s an example. I was speaking with a proud dad who was shopping for an extended auto warranty for his son who was college bound.

He was proud because his son is the first person in his family to go to a University. I thought that was pretty neat, but having attend college too I definately know what happens in your first semester.

If you have never owned an extended car warranty before, it’s important to realize that you must keep your car’s maintenance on its regular schedule.

If you were to take your car for repair and expect your warranty to cover the expense, it’s possible your claim could be rejected if you cannot clearly show you’ve maintained your vehicle.

So after I explained this point to the son’s father, he quickly decided that it might not be the right option for him because he knew little johnny would be skipping oil changes so he could save his money for the “college experience” if you know what I mean!

Nonetheless, dad made the right decision for his circumstance and it showed that an auto warranty isn’t right for everyone.
