If you purchased an auto warranty and never used it, you might wish you could ask for an auto warranty refund. However, a warranty is a lot like a lotto ticket – if you “win” you don’t care what it cost to play, but if you “lose” there’s no going back. But unlike a lotto ticket, there is one way to get a refund on an extended auto warranty.
If you purchased an extended warranty from your dealer at the time you purchased your car, that coverage will typically not begin until your original manufacturer’s warranty has expired. But if you decide to sell or trade in your car prior to the expiry of that original warranty, the warranty provider will be required to refund to you the money you have paid for the extended warranty that you never got around to using.
If this was still a lotto ticket, it would be like getting a refund on your ticket before the winning numbers were announced. This is the only time you will ever get a refund out of a warranty provider. In any other situation, your money is as good as gone. You took your chance, and as it turns out, your car did not need the help (which is a good thing if you ask me).
